Design (Europe-style)

February 17, 2009

So as of late I have decided to backpack across Europe this summer after graduation. I have never been out of the country and I think it will be an amazing experience to finally be able to see and take in the art and culture I have spent so many years of my college career reading about. I am starting to do most of the major planning now (as if school hasn’t been enough, haha) and I’m having to really dig into the different cultures and practices to be able to plan this trip (semi)properly. I’m going to have to learn a little bit about several different languages, as well as habits and mannerisms that are different from here in America. Best of all, I get to immerse myself into a different DESIGN culture! I’m hoping to meet other people doing the same thing I am, only from different countries and backgrounds. And I can certainly hope to meet a few other artists and hopefully designers. I plan on hitting up all of the major art museums I can get to, as well as some places of interests (read: art districts).

I always hear about how important it is to network and I’m hoping this will be the most important networking I’ll ever do. I want to be able to bring in all different kinds of ideas into my art and design – not just those drilled into my head from where I live. I would love to incorporate new, fresh influences from people and cultures from all over in order to have a more comprehensive idea of what art and design mean not just to me, but to the rest of the world as well. I am so excited to see how this trip will turn out!
